ZOME DESIGN ANALYSIS

A geometric micro-structure combining architectural efficiency, spatial clarity, and environmental sensitivity.

1. Geometric Concept — The Rhombic Zome

This design is based on polar zonohedra geometry. Unlike conventional geodesic domes composed of triangles, the Zome is formed using rhombic (diamond-shaped) facets.

  • Symmetry: 12-fold rotational symmetry spiraling toward a central apex.
  • Structural Efficiency: Double-curvature shell creates a fully self-supporting structure.
  • Spatial Freedom: No internal load-bearing walls; entirely open floor plan.

2. Spatial Organization — Centralized Living

The internal layout follows a radial planning strategy, centered beneath the highest point of the vaulted ceiling.

  • The Core: Centrally placed queen-sized bed beneath a 12’ ceiling.
  • Functional Zoning: Wet areas positioned along the rear perimeter.
  • Threshold: 10’ wide entry transition establishes a public-to-private gradient.

3. Light & Pattern — The “Petal” Skylight

Light becomes an architectural element through rhythmic fenestration and controlled glazing.

  • Zenith Lighting: Flower-like skylight creates a dynamic sundial effect.
  • Aperture Control: Rhombic side windows frame views while preserving privacy.
  • Atmosphere: Ever-changing light patterns animate the interior.

4. Ground Connection — Light-Touch Foundation

The structure is elevated using a multi-point pier foundation system, reducing environmental impact.

  • Stilt Concept: Floating aesthetic with minimal ground disturbance.
  • Environmental Adaptation: Ideal for slopes and sensitive ecosystems.
  • Deployment: Faster installation and reversible construction.
